
Involve your child/ren in your faith in God and Jesus. We live in a busy world and a world that creates many challenges for us including our child/ren. Here a few ideas that might be able to incorporate into your life together.
Teach your child/ren to pray, what is prayer, when we usually pray, how this is a big part of a Christians life.
The key to teaching your child/ren is fun, you are celebrating God and Jesus together as a family.
Take time to pray together as a family:
- Mealtimes
- Car journeys
- Bedtimes.
- Walking to school
- In the morning before anything else
Ideas for prayers
- Friends
- Family
- School/college/university
- Where your family lives
- People hurt or bullied.
- Learn about the world and pray for those people, their environment, their animals.
- As your children get older include bigger issues like countries, churches, and areas that will affect your children as growing into adult life.
- The light the source, in slightly dark room pray around a light source in that room and explain how Jesus is the light and how we need to focus on that light.
- Have a prayer pin board wall.
- Have a prayer jar.
- Make a prayer cake for each ingredient add the name of someone to pray for. Each participant takes time to stir the prayer cake.
Bible time
- Before meals
- Set times during the day or at weekends.
- Bible study challenges
- Devotionals together
- Study nights.
- Bible games
- Read from a children’s Bible.
- Keep it simple.
- Keep it short.
- Use a family devotional book but at a level of your child/children.
- Get the older children to help tutor the younger children.
Other ideas
- Watch Christian films together.
- Where are you in God, allow family to talk about when they are close to God and when they feel distant from Him. Allow your family to express these feelings without judgement and give advice how we can become closer.
- Celebrate your talents and give thanks for them.
- Thank God for His love, encourage your child to say thank you.
- Allow your children to speak about their excitement, frustrations, whether they are happy or sad and to encourage them to tell God about these feelings.
- Use online resources.
- Have a being grateful pin board wall.
- Have a thankful jar.
- Pillow hug, hug a pillow while giving blessings to others.
- For youth make a video together
- Play worship music in the car.
- Worship nights at home.
- Talk about how God was in your day.
- Family journal
- Do something together in the community.
- God’s creation hike
- Bubble prayers – each bubble as it floats away prayer.
- Craft create something God would like, something that represents His love, maybe create something out of playdough or clay.
Always remember to be consistent and it must be Fun.
