1. About This Policy
Christian Life Today welcomes individuals, churches, Christian organisations, community groups and others who wish to support our work through fundraising activities.
This Fundraising Policy explains the principles and requirements that apply to fundraising undertaken to support Christian Life Today.
Our aim is to ensure that fundraising is carried out in a way that is honest, transparent, responsible, respectful and consistent with applicable law.
Where fundraising is undertaken independently by an individual or organisation, the fundraiser remains responsible for their own fundraising activity unless Christian Life Today has formally authorised or instructed them to fundraise on our behalf.
2. About Christian Life Today
Christian Life Today is a Christian ministry providing online Christian resources, articles, Bible teaching, devotional material, prayer resources and other resources intended to encourage and equip people in their Christian faith.
Money raised for Christian Life Today is intended to support the continuation, development and maintenance of this work.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, funds raised are not for the personal benefit of any individual.
Christian Life Today does not guarantee that every fundraising proposal will be accepted.
3. Fundraising Permission
Anyone wishing to organise a fundraising activity specifically for Christian Life Today should contact us before beginning the activity where reasonably possible.
We may approve, decline or place conditions on a proposed fundraising activity.
Permission may be refused where an activity:
• could damage the reputation of Christian Life Today;
• creates unreasonable legal, financial or safeguarding risks;
• conflicts with our Christian ethos or purposes;
• involves misleading or inappropriate fundraising practices;
• requires licences, permissions or insurance that have not been obtained;
• involves unlawful activity;
• involves significant financial risk;
• or otherwise does not meet our standards.
Permission to fundraise does not automatically mean that Christian Life Today accepts responsibility for the fundraiser, event, participants or members of the public attending the activity.
4. Independent Fundraising
Where an individual or organisation independently raises money for Christian Life Today, the fundraiser should make it clear that they are raising funds in support of Christian Life Today and are not an employee, trustee, representative, agent or official spokesperson unless this has been expressly agreed.
Fundraisers must not claim or imply that:
• they are acting on behalf of Christian Life Today when they are not;
• Christian Life Today has officially endorsed an activity when it has not;
• Christian Life Today guarantees the safety or quality of an independently organised event;
• donations will be used for a particular project unless this has been agreed with Christian Life Today;
• or Christian Life Today is responsible for expenses, losses, injuries or liabilities arising from an independently organised activity.
Current UK government guidance recommends that people fundraising for a particular organisation clearly identify the organisation they are supporting and make clear when they are fundraising independently.
5. Use of the Christian Life Today Name and Branding
The name, logo, images and other branding belonging to Christian Life Today must not be altered, misused or used in a way that suggests an unauthorised partnership or endorsement.
Fundraisers may only use our name, logo or promotional materials in accordance with any permission given.
We may require fundraising materials to be amended or withdrawn where we believe they could mislead the public or harm the reputation of Christian Life Today.
6. Honest and Transparent Fundraising
Fundraisers must provide accurate information to potential supporters.
Fundraising communications should clearly explain:
• who is organising the fundraising;
• that the activity supports Christian Life Today;
• what the money is intended to support;
• whether a fundraising target has been established;
• whether any reasonable expenses will be deducted;
• whether an online fundraising platform or payment provider charges fees;
• and any other information that a reasonable donor would need to make an informed decision.
Fundraisers must not use false, exaggerated, misleading or emotionally manipulative claims to obtain donations.
They must not falsely suggest that a donation is tax-deductible, eligible for Gift Aid or otherwise entitled to a tax benefit.
7. Restricted Fundraising
If a fundraising appeal states that money will be used for a particular purpose, the fundraiser should ensure that Christian Life Today has agreed to accept funds for that purpose before fundraising begins.
Money raised for a specified purpose should not be represented as being available for unrelated purposes.
Where circumstances change and the original purpose can no longer reasonably be fulfilled, Christian Life Today may need to determine an appropriate alternative use consistent with the original fundraising intention and applicable law.
The Charity Commission advises charities to ensure that funds raised are used for the purposes for which they were raised.
8. Fundraising Events
Fundraisers are responsible for ensuring that their events are properly planned and conducted safely.
Depending on the activity, fundraisers may need to obtain:
• venue permission;
• public liability insurance;
• licences or permits;
• permissions for collections;
• appropriate music or entertainment licences;
• food safety arrangements;
• risk assessments;
• safeguarding arrangements;
• or other permissions required by law.
Christian Life Today should not be assumed to provide insurance or accept liability for an independently organised event unless this has been expressly agreed in writing.
9. Collections and Public Fundraising
Anyone organising a public collection must comply with the legal requirements applicable to that collection.
Fundraisers must not collect money in places where they do not have permission to do so.
Where a licence, permit or other legal authority is required, it is the fundraiser’s responsibility to obtain it unless Christian Life Today has expressly agreed to do so.
Cash collections should be handled securely and counted appropriately, preferably by more than one responsible person.
10. Online Fundraising
Fundraisers may use reputable online fundraising and payment platforms where appropriate.
Before using an online platform, fundraisers should check:
• its terms and conditions;
• transaction or platform fees;
• withdrawal arrangements;
• identity verification requirements;
• donor information requirements;
• and whether optional tips or additional charges are presented to donors.
Donors should not be misled about the amount that Christian Life Today will actually receive.
UK government guidance specifically recommends that fundraisers make donors aware of fees charged by online fundraising platforms.
11. Expenses
Fundraisers should aim to keep fundraising expenses reasonable.
Where a fundraiser intends to deduct expenses from money raised, this should be made clear to donors before donations are made.
Expenses must not be presented as donations to Christian Life Today.
Unless expressly agreed in advance, Christian Life Today will not reimburse expenses incurred by independent fundraisers.
12. Children and Young People
Fundraising involving children or young people must be appropriately planned and supervised.
Parents, guardians, schools, churches and organisations responsible for children should ensure that appropriate safeguarding measures are in place.
Fundraisers must comply with applicable safeguarding requirements and must not place children or young people in unnecessary danger or inappropriate situations.
Christian Life Today may decline fundraising activities involving children where appropriate safeguarding arrangements cannot be demonstrated.
13. Vulnerable People
Fundraisers must treat potential donors and participants with dignity and respect.
Fundraising must not exploit vulnerability, financial hardship, bereavement, disability, age, illness or other personal circumstances.
Fundraisers should take particular care where an individual may have difficulty understanding the nature or consequences of a donation.
No person should be pressured, intimidated or repeatedly approached after indicating that they do not wish to donate.
14. Data Protection and Privacy
Fundraisers must handle personal information responsibly and comply with applicable data protection legislation.
Personal information collected during fundraising should only be collected where there is a legitimate reason to do so and should be kept secure.
Fundraisers must not sell, rent or share donor information without an appropriate lawful basis and any required permissions.
Christian Life Today will handle personal information it receives in accordance with its applicable Privacy Policy.
Fundraisers should not automatically assume that Christian Life Today wants to receive lists of donors or personal information collected during an independently organised fundraising activity.
15. Gift Aid
Fundraisers must not tell donors that donations automatically qualify for Gift Aid.
Gift Aid can only be claimed where the relevant legal requirements are satisfied and the appropriate declaration has been made.
Where Gift Aid is available, the appropriate process and wording must be used.
Fundraisers must not make false or misleading claims about the tax treatment of donations.
16. Lotteries, Raffles, Competitions and Games
Fundraisers intending to organise a raffle, lottery, competition, prize draw, gaming activity or similar event must ensure that they understand and comply with the relevant legal requirements.
Some activities may require registration, a licence or specific operating conditions.
Christian Life Today must be consulted before any such activity is presented as an official Christian Life Today fundraising activity.
17. Alcohol and Other Regulated Activities
Any fundraising event involving alcohol, gambling, regulated activities or other potentially restricted activities must comply with all applicable legislation and licensing requirements.
Christian Life Today may refuse permission for activities that create unacceptable legal, safeguarding, reputational or financial risks.
18. International Fundraising
Christian Life Today may receive support from people outside the United Kingdom.
Anyone fundraising internationally must comply with the laws and regulations applicable in the country or territory where the fundraising takes place.
Different countries may have different rules concerning charitable fundraising, public collections, tax, donations, payment processing, data protection and financial transfers.
Christian Life Today does not accept responsibility for an overseas fundraiser’s failure to comply with local laws.
19. Fraud, Money Laundering and Suspicious Donations
Christian Life Today reserves the right to investigate, delay, refuse or return donations where there are reasonable concerns regarding:
• fraud;
• money laundering;
• stolen funds;
• unlawful activity;
• identity fraud;
• financial abuse;
• sanctions;
• or other financial or legal risks.
We may request additional information about the source or intended purpose of a donation where appropriate.
We may also report suspected criminal activity to the relevant authorities where legally required or considered appropriate.
20. Fundraising on Social Media
Fundraisers using Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, YouTube or other platforms should ensure that their posts accurately describe their fundraising activity.
Fundraisers must not:
• impersonate Christian Life Today;
• create fake Christian Life Today accounts;
• falsely claim to be an official representative;
• publish misleading donation appeals;
• use another person’s identity without permission;
• or provide payment details that have not been authorised.
Any official fundraising links supplied by Christian Life Today should be used accurately and without modification.
21. Fundraising Materials
Christian Life Today may request to see fundraising materials before publication where the fundraiser is using our name, logo or official materials.
We reserve the right to ask a fundraiser to remove or amend any material that:
• is inaccurate;
• is misleading;
• is offensive;
• breaches the law;
• misuses our branding;
• conflicts with our Christian ethos;
• or could damage the reputation of Christian Life Today.
22. Financial Accountability
Money raised specifically for Christian Life Today should be transferred to Christian Life Today through an approved payment or donation method.
Fundraisers should keep appropriate records of:
• money received;
• fundraising expenses;
• money transferred;
• fundraising dates;
• and relevant supporting documentation.
Where appropriate, Christian Life Today may request reasonable information to confirm how funds were raised and transferred.
23. Fundraising Targets
A fundraising target is an indication of the amount a fundraiser hopes to raise.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, a target is not a guarantee.
Where a fundraiser publicly states a specific target, they should be clear about what will happen if:
• the target is exceeded;
• the target is not reached;
• the fundraising activity ends early;
• or the activity cannot be completed.
UK government guidance recommends that fundraising appeals clearly explain targets, time limits and what will happen where a challenge cannot be completed.
24. Cancellation or Withdrawal of Permission
Christian Life Today may withdraw permission for a fundraising activity where circumstances change or where the activity is no longer considered appropriate.
Where permission is withdrawn, the fundraiser should stop representing the activity as an authorised Christian Life Today fundraising activity.
Where money has already been collected, appropriate arrangements should be made to deal with those funds transparently and in accordance with the stated purpose of the appeal and applicable law.
25. Complaints and Concerns
We take concerns about fundraising seriously.
Concerns may include:
• misleading fundraising;
• misuse of the Christian Life Today name;
• inappropriate treatment of donors;
• misuse of donations;
• safeguarding concerns;
• suspected fraud;
• or concerns about an authorised fundraiser.
Complaints should be sent to Christian Life Today through the contact details provided on our website.
Where a matter concerns suspected criminal activity, fraud or another serious legal issue, it may also be appropriate to contact the relevant authorities.
26. No Guarantee of Fundraising Success
Christian Life Today does not guarantee that an individual or organisation will raise a particular amount of money.
Fundraising outcomes depend on many factors, including the activity, audience, circumstances and fundraising platform used.
27. Responsibility for Independent Fundraisers
Unless Christian Life Today has expressly agreed otherwise in writing, an independent fundraiser is responsible for:
• organising their activity;
• obtaining required permissions;
• complying with applicable laws;
• ensuring appropriate insurance;
• safeguarding participants;
• managing money raised;
• paying their own expenses;
• and dealing with any claims, losses or liabilities arising from their activity.
Government guidance similarly notes that when an individual decides to raise money for a charity, the individual is responsible for their fundraising activity rather than automatically transferring responsibility to the charity.
28. No Agency or Partnership
Permission to fundraise for Christian Life Today does not create an employment relationship, partnership, joint venture, agency relationship or other legal relationship unless expressly agreed in writing.
Fundraisers must not enter contracts or commitments in the name of Christian Life Today.
29. Changes to This Policy
Christian Life Today may update this Fundraising Policy & Legal Notice from time to time to reflect changes in our activities, fundraising practices or applicable law.
The latest version will be published on our website.
30. Legal and Regulatory Compliance
This policy is intended to support responsible fundraising and should be read alongside any other relevant Christian Life Today policies and legal notices.
Fundraising activities must comply with applicable UK legislation and, where relevant, the laws of the country in which fundraising takes place.
The Charity Commission and Fundraising Regulator issued updated public guidance in June 2026 emphasising that fundraising should be legal, ethical, transparent and respectful.
Where Christian Life Today is legally required to comply with specific charity fundraising regulations, those requirements will apply.
Nothing in this policy is intended to override applicable law.
