Christian Life Today (CLT) is committed to using social media to engage, encourage, and inform our audience about the Christian faith. This policy provides guidance for how our team, volunteers, and community members interact online in a way that reflects Christian values and protects the integrity of our organisation.

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to:

  • Promote a safe, respectful, and Christ-centred online community.
  • Ensure consistent messaging across all CLT social media platforms.
  • Protect the reputation of CLT, its staff, volunteers, and community.
  • Provide clear guidance for the appropriate use of social media.

Scope

This policy applies to:

  • Official CLT social media accounts (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, YouTube, Tiktok, Suno, Pinterest, Reddit, In Your Area, Nextdoor, Tumblr, Bsky,).
  • Staff, volunteers, and anyone authorized to post content on behalf of CLT.
  • Any personal accounts where individuals identify as representatives of CLT.

Principles

All social media activity must reflect the following principles:

  1. Respect and Kindness: Treat others with love, patience, and respect, even in disagreement.
  2. Integrity: Share accurate information and avoid misleading or false statements.
  3. Confidentiality: Do not share personal or sensitive information about individuals or internal operations without consent.
  4. Accountability: Staff and volunteers must take responsibility for their online actions and posts.
  5. Alignment with Christian Values: Posts, comments, and interactions should reflect Christian principles, Scripture, and the mission of CLT.

Content Guidelines

  • All content should align with CLT’s mission: to inspire, educate, and strengthen faith in Christ.
  • Scripture references should be accurate and cited (e.g., NIV, ESV, or NRSV).
  • Avoid controversial or divisive topics unrelated to CLT’s mission.
  • Do not engage in political campaigning or endorsements unless explicitly authorised.
  • Images, videos, and graphics must be respectful and appropriate for a general Christian audience.

Engagement Guidelines

  • Respond to comments, messages, and inquiries politely and promptly.
  • Avoid arguments, online fights, or unkind language.
  • Report any harassment, threats, or inappropriate behaviour to management.
  • Encourage positive, supportive conversations within the community.

Security & Privacy

  • Use strong, unique passwords for all social media accounts.
  • Only authorised staff or volunteers may post content or respond to messages on CLT accounts.
  • Do not share internal login credentials with unauthorised persons.
  • Follow GDPR and UK data protection guidelines when handling personal information.

Crisis Management

In case of sensitive issues, negative publicity, or potential social media crises:

  • Do not post public responses until guidance is received from senior management.
  • Notify the Communications Lead immediately.
  • Address the situation in a calm, professional, and biblical manner.

Personal Social Media Use

  • Staff and volunteers may use personal accounts freely but should avoid posting content that could harm CLT’s reputation.
  • Clearly separate personal opinions from CLT statements.
  • If mentioning CLT in a personal post, include a disclaimer: “The views expressed are my own and do not represent Christian Life Today.”

Monitoring and Compliance

  • CLT reserves the right to monitor official social media accounts.
  • Non-compliance with this policy may result in removal of content, suspension of posting privileges, or disciplinary action.

Review

This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it remains relevant and effective. Updates will be communicated to all staff and volunteers.
